Narrative of the Young Shepherd

Deep within the enchanting rolling meadows, dwelt a shepherd boy. His life was essentially pure, and unsophisticated. His only responsibility was essentially to look after his flock of sheep.

Their soft bleating and the rustling of the breezes through the lone tree on the peak were his main co-dwellers. Day in day, guarding his responsibilities inculcated in him a notion of quiet fulfillment.

However, there were at times moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would yearn for fellowship. In one such instance out of sheer monotony, the shepherd boy orchestrated a naughty scheme.

Narratives of predators hunting on sheep had been around for a while in the town. So, the boy opted to leveraged this fear and played a trick on the villagers.

One day he raced into the village yelling “Wolf! There is a wolf preying on my sheep!” The frightened villagers rushed up the hills to offer assistance but discovered nothing threatening.

The boy chuckled at the confusion on their faces. This prank continued for a couple of more days. However, one day, a real wolf did charge at the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy dashed for help, screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he went back to the village only to be met with a lesson on honesty and the results of dishonesty.

The story of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the importance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the dangers of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights website how trust once lost, is difficult to earn back. It's a story as appropriate today as it was then.
